What 3 things can you do to reduce your household garbage?
The issue of what to do with the household garbage is very serious. Garbage solutions have become very important. In a family with young children, handling the garbage and reducing the garbage can become a major household dilemma. Here are some solutions to reduce household garbage.
- Use a composting bin:
Many kinds of vegetable and fruit scraps, such as vegetable scraps, yard trimmings, dry leaves, stale bread, leftover fruit, egg shells, and coffee grounds can easily be composted into a safe soil filled with nutrients. This soil can be used in flower beds, vegetable gardens, and around the trees and bushes in your yard. You can create your own composting bin out of wood or you can buy one from a garden center. Place it in an unobtrusive place in your yard. It is a good idea to have it covered to discourage varmints or wandering dogs and cats.
- Reuse products:
Before throwing anything out, analyze why you are tossing the product and find the alternative uses of it. Plastic containers can be used to store leftovers or the children’s crayons. Perhaps the garage could use some storage containers for extra bolts, nails, or screws. If you can’t find a use for plastic containers, bottles and boxes, recycle them at your local recycling depot.
- Try to buy bulk packaged products:
Avoid buying individual wrapped products, single-serve containers, or even snack packs. Buy bulk items whenever you can and save on the fancy packaging. Buying in bulk will save you money as well. Buy a stainless steel or plastic reusable containers that you can refill in your kitchen.
