Different Types of Lights to Grow Your Own Vegetables

If you are thinking about growing vegetables in your garden, it is definitely a very good idea, as it will provide you with fresh and unadulterated vegetables. However, for the optimum growth of vegetables, proper light is required. Different vegetables respond to different types of lights. The lights that are considered to be best for the growth of the vegetables are red and blue. They are very helpful in the photosynthesis process.

While thinking about the grow lights for vegetables, you may also be considering the budget factor. Remember that the higher cost of light may not really result in enhanced growth. However, the lost cost lights are quite difficult to maintain and may cost you more money in the long run.

If the budget is too tight then you will want to go for something which is cheaper. Incandescent lights for growing vegetables are cheapest among all. For the best results, you need to keep them at the distance of about 30 inches from the plant. A word of caution for you! These lights produce more heat than others. If you keep them too close to the plants, you might end up damaging them. Also, these lights are cheap to buy, but they may spike up your energy bills.

If you want to strike a balance between immediate cost and long-term benefits, then you can go for the fluorescent grow lights. These lights are obviously more expensive than their incandescent counterparts, but they are more effective, consume much less energy, and are more durable.

LED lights are the latest in the light technology. They are quite expensive but save you more money than the others in the longer run.
